Autism, or autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is developmental disorder characterized by deficits in social skills and repetitive behaviors or interests, ASD may also impact speech, language and nonverbal communication skills. Individuals with ASD often have a different way of learning, moving, and paying attention According to the Centers for Disease Control, autism affects an estimated 1 in 36 children in the United States today.

Autism is usually diagnosed between 2-3 years of age. If your child is showing some of the above early signs your child may need a more in depth evaluation by a developmental pediatrician, neurologist, or child psychologist.

Research shows that early intervention services are critical and can greatly improve a child’s development. In order to make sure your child reaches their full potential, it is important to start services as soon as possible.

A child's speech may be delayed if they have not mastered the listed sounds by the given ages. It should be noted children can develop these sounds before the given ages.
